Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

I only have insurance for when I'm holding a stall at the markets (selling some of my designs).  But I do guarantee my work.  I like the customer to be happy, and if something isn't right, I will work with them until their vision is achieved.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I just fell into it.  I didn't leave school and go into design.  I just ended up being the person people went to to make their content look really good.  So I followed that path and never looked back.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Accepted Answer

I had just finished running a local amateur photo competition, when a regular client wanted billboard design that was specifically local. So I was able to pair up the two and create a design that was right for my client and gave exposure to an amateur photographer. Then drive past it everyday.

What do you like most about your job?

I love the variety that my job gives me.  I've done just about anything from business cards, flyers, reports and tenders to bumper stickers, car wraps, billboards, newspaper advertisements, pull up banners, canvas outdoor banners and shop front signage.  It's never boring.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

Customers should ask if they will have ownership of the designs in the end.  Some designers won't give up original files and that can be frustrating later on when you need changes made.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Accepted Answer

Customers often ask me if I can organise printing on their behalf. Yes I can!  Sometimes it's easier for the designer to talk to the printer, making sure the right materials and printing process is used.  And don't worry, I'm not limited to local printers.  I often recommend online printers too.

I have mand testimonials on my website from individuals with solo businesses as well as larger corporations.  I pride myself on being flexible with a willingness to work to short deadlines.

I love what I do. I enjoying preparing designs, documents and publications and ensuring they are of the highest professional standard. I love working with new businesses to achieve their needs, taking concepts and translating them into tangilbe deliverables.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I need to know the whether the design is intended to go to print or not (or both), the size and length of document (e.g. business card, A5, A4, billboard, newspaper, 2pages, 50pages).  Also if there is any branding already to follow or if this is a new concept.

Try to really have your content ready and proof read before you come to a designer.  That way there will be less contact back and forth making changes.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I have low overheads compared to larger corporations.  Being a freelancer means I get to work in a home office saving on extra rent and electricity.

How do you normally charge for your service?

There are some services I have a set price for, e.g. Business Cards, A5 Flyers.  Otherwise small jobs are per hour and larger jobs are quoted on.

I specialise in page layout designs.  Flyers, Brochures, Reports, Long Documents and Tenders.  Incorporating a businesses brand standards to make all materials consistent.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have 15 years in the industry and 7 years freelancing experience.  I use the full range of the Adobe Create Suite to complete most of my projects, including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, whilst incorporating the Microsoft Office Suite of Products.
