Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Yes I certainly am. It is a requirement for members of the ICAA with a Public Practice Certificate to hold Professional Indemnity Insurance to the value of $2m. In addition to this I hold public liability insurance and would never charge for correcting a mistake should I make one.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Always been good with numbers, and interested in small business. It was really just a just a natural progression. Working for myself - when my wife expanded her business to a second store, she needed more of my time, which I could not do working for someone else, so I started my own practice.

Sole Trader, with 4 employees. Never took a proper wage, used drawings when need and putting it back when the business needed. We incorporated the business, separating business and personal finances. 12 months later, things look better as easier to focus on each separately.

What do you like most about your job?

I love working with small business and making a difference to peoples lives. Seeing the stress leave them once we have spoken. I love the flexibility that I have from working at home, being able to see people when it suits them and not having to wear a suit or travel into the city.

How can we pay no tax/get a big refund? "I believe the best tax position is a NIL one, as it means you have paid the correct tax. A big refund means the ATO has had your money all year and we need to work out why. Everyone needs to pay tax, my job is to make sure that we achieve the best position.

No 2 jobs are the same. What is involved? How complicated? How messy are the records? Do you need just a tax return or more? Are there investments? Rental Property? Capital Gains? Is there software used? Are the bank accounts reconciled? Are the BAS Lodged?

Three things that clients can do to to save money: Individuals - Make sure you summarise/add up your receipts, check your bank for interest, check with me first. Business - Make sure your accounting file is complete, neat and tidy. The bank has been reconciled, paperwork to support large items.

Efficiencies are gained when processing multiple jobs and therefore if we process 2 or more returns at once a discount can be offered on the standard ITR fee of $110. Again, the final fee is determined by the time required.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Working from home and by myself I have low overheads which allows me to do my work at a reduced charge out rate. It is currently $110 per hour, which is less than half of the rate I was charged out at in my 2 previous firms. I want my clients to call me, I want to be involved in your business.

Working from home, I have kept my costs down and pass that onto my clients. I work on an hourly rate of $110 (inc GST)per hour. Each job is different and the cost is dependent on the quality and timeliness of the work provided. I work with you to keep the costs down.
