How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Became a brush hand then decided to ask my boss at the time for an apprenticeship . Completed the apprenticeship and became a qualified painter

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

A job I did at the junction in Newcastle. Entire town house internally only repaint. I was up against 3 other painters. I gave the client a quote. I was the most expensive. I gave the client a discount. She accepted. I found out later I was the favourite because I was the nicest.

To see the client is happy with the finished product. Knowing that makes me happy and good advertising for me and means I might get more work from word of mouth

Are you qualified? Do you have your cert 3 in painting and decorating. Also ask the painter if they have any references so they can call other people to see if the painter did a good job

How long will the job take? I give a rough estimate of time period. When can you do the job? I explain when I can fit the job in and if I can work weekends if needed to finish the job. Also happy to work with client schedule

Mostly I don't ask for a deposit. I do progress payments allowing the client to see the work and then provide progress payments. I always keep the client up to date either texting or calling or talking to in person about the job and my start and rough finish time for each day

I take the time to find out what work the customer wants completed which can include if needed colour choice. Also when it come to house keeping I like to leave the clients house tidy and as clean as possible each day. Also happy to answer any questions. I always use drops sheets!

What work needs to be painted. Is walls? Ceilings? How high are the ceilings ? Are the ceilings decorative? How many doors?  Externally how high roughly would the walls or eaves or facia or gutters or windows be? Is it flaking or even rotting away?

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Move any items off walls and move any light furniture away from the area to be painted. Vacuum any dusty areas before painter arrives.

To match or even beat other quotes from the competition. Include extra work in my quotes. That is if something extra needs painting and if time allows just do the extra without charge.

I normally do a quote but happy to do hourly rate. Quote I think is better because client knows what there getting for the price they have been quoted
