How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Uni Origins •	I was a student at UQ for 8 years – Our DJ business really grew from there to include all ten UQ colleges’ events, the larger events - Toga parties, ICC balls, Med Balls, Cromwell Bunkers, Faculty Balls - Clubs & Soc’s, Academic Dinners at the Staff House, etc., plus many other campuses, QUT, ACU, Griffith, the Con of Music.   We diversified into video production, event management and larger Production-type shows through this time to the 1990’s and today, including the larger School Gym dances like Terrace, Ashgrove, BBC, Lauries, Villanova, etc. – So you could say we are kind-of “Uni Specialists” as we have an intimate knowledge of the music from all this time – over 950 Uni gigs.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Music  • We have all the most popular music, 60/70/80/90’s right up to all the current Top 40, Dance, R&B, etc. – we cover school dances, weddings, 18ths, 21sts, corporate to 30/40/50/60th birthdays.  • We can offer Party-Style programme – starting with Favourites, Theme Songs, (or even Swing & Jazz at Black Tie events) for pre-drinks, which we progressively brighten through dinner to Party ‘toe-tappers’ for dessert - and then a main dance programme with a wide variety - including 70/80/90/2000’s (all genres), College Favourites, right through to Current Top 40, JJJ, Club & Dance, customised to the crowd – we discuss your requirements more fully when you book.   4. Performance –  • We are “Interactive” DJ/MCs – still hi-tech, (“In-Concert”) but entertaining the crowd (in a style relating to their age range), programming the right song at the right time to suit the current mood and making sure everyone has a good time. We play a wide variety of music, announce, mc, take requests and dance, to pump & motivate the audience.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

It pays to be a bit wary of the ‘free’ DJ included within packages at many venues – you need to check & compare to see what you’re getting for your money. (Most venues will offer a reduction in price if you book your own DJ – sometimes as much as $500 off – you just have to ask!)

What makes your pricing competitive?

All DJs are NOT THE SAME!  - Prices vary greatly in Brisbane   There are 3 TYPES of DJs in Brisbane :-   1.	HOBBY DJs  or AGENCY-TYPE” DJs -  (Lower-Quality) - charging as low as $250 or $285 - (there’s an Agency-Type firm on this site)  2.   EXPENSIVE Club DJs  or ’Top-End’ Wedding DJ/MC - (Over-Priced) - up to $1200 to $1500 – (not necessarily all that experienced - or suit your type of event))  3.  FULL-TIME PROFESSIONAL DJs – (Quality, Experienced) – LIKE US!!  **   - all events - charge $380 to $550 for a standard show.  We are a PRODUCTION DJ COMPANY - we have spent $1.2m on our business, Sound & Lighting gear..  ( we have 9 Packages...  to suit 20ppl to 3000ppl)  ..... We're a lot more serious about what we do than most DJs - a lot more resources...

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Weddings, 21sts, School Dances, Uni –  • Early in the show, the DJ needs to quickly determine where the crowd is at in their development – students can either be quite grown-up or still young at heart – most often they are a mix of both. There is quite a lot of psychology involved - this where our DJ skills come into play. We approach the show initially to “show our wares” playing a variety of music and then read and adapt with the mood!! – We take requests, do lots of mic work, etc – depending on the crowd.  • We generate a high level of interaction & energy, MC/microphone work  and play all the current Top40 as well as all the favourites and classic tracks thru the 70/80/90/2000’s - At school P&F events, often the parents join in and have their own disco at the back

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Experience – (Dances we are performing at this month include – Terrace, St Ritas, All Hallows & St Aidans)  * We work regularly at places like the Convention centre, Qld Cricketers’ Club, Queensland Club, Polo Club, Tattersall’s, Downtown Rugby Club and all of the Major Hotels, halls & venues  -  we are very experienced with all types of events and crowds of all ages  – cocktail-style, traditional sit-down, party, whatever - whether a Gala Ball, Corporate Event, Wedding, School Gym Dance, 18th/21st  Senior Formal, Decade Birthday Party, Staff Party or even a Barefoot Bowls BBQ.   • We regularly perform at Major School & University Events – Terrace (2000 ppl), Brigidine, St Aidans, St Ritas & Lourdes Hill dances among many others (over 90 colleges in total). We are also very conscious of aspects like security, safety, crowd control, appropriate music content  & crowd psychology. We have now spent more than $1,300,000 on gear –  we’re heavily invested.  • We have also supported such diverse acts as Mental as Anything, Tania Kernigan & Powderfinger  at corporate events, plus many more of the various local corporate acts.  We are one of only 3 or 4 truly Full-Time Professional DJ firms in Brisbane – it’s our livelihood, so we take entertaining very seriously!
