How did you decide to get into your line of work?

TV Hits from the 90's such as 'Home Improvement' and 'The Block', coupled with a DIY Dad allowing his kids to be involved with many renovation projects throughout the years really steered me towards becoming a Carpenter. After all the blood, sweat and tears at times, it is always extremely satisfying seeing the end product and delivering top results for our clients.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

We successfully completed a kitchen and laundry renovation project for an interstate client moving to Miami in the Gold Coast. Our client and our team didn't realise until the project was completed, but we never met the client in person! It was all based on email correspondence or phone conversations, a tribute to not only our team, but all of our subcontractors involved of how trustworthy and capable we are.

Clients should always hire the best tradesmen possible. Key questions to ask include: Are you trade qualified? Do you hold current QBCC licencing to perform the work? Are you insured? Will you be providing the required Home Warranty Insurance for the duration of the project? What materials are you planning to use for my project, and are they durable? Will you guarantee all your work for the required 6 years 6 months as per QBCC guidelines?

Q: Does Home Projects Gold Coast do any trade work themselves, or is it just project management that you offer? A: We have a team of in-house carpenters and complete all aspects of building and carpentry. For all other trades such as plumbers, electricians or tilers, we use fully licenced and insured subtrades - and have completed many projects through our network of local tradesmen.  Q: Can we move plumbing fixtures to new locations?  A: Yes, however bare in mind this will add additional costs.  Q: Can we add a plumbing fixture? A: Yes, however we will need to obtain the necessary approvals in order to do so.  Q: Can you built....x? A: Yes, in fact, my carpentry apprenticeship was completed in New Zealand, where we build homes right through from the foundations to the roofing, and everything in between!  Q: We are on a budget, and Johnny down the road can do the same job for $xx? A: Is Johnny fully licenced and insured? What materials will he be using? Can he guarantee his work? Can he provide you a contract with a clear scope of works, start dates and completion dates? If your spending $x, make sure you are investing that money into a new space that will last the test of time!

1. Know your budget, key dates for start and completion of works, must haves and non-negotiables. 2. Research your desired finishes for wall, floors, any joinery and or benchtops, plumbing fittings and fixture selections and ensure you have a rough sketch of a floor plan layout of the space.  **Pro tip: Mark out the space where possible with masking tape, this way you can get a real vision and feel for the space, particularly if you are adding, moving or removing any walls or fixtures.** **Pro tip: Have photos of the examples of finishes or layouts that you are wanting to achieve. This will help speed up the conceptual stage and aid in getting your project started quickly.** 3. Once the scope of works and product selections are clear to both of you and our team, we can then use of strong network of fully licenced and insured tradesmen to obtain project pricing for your project, sign contracts, and get the ball rolling to start the creation of your new dream spaces!
