How did you decide to get into your line of work?

As a child I have always loved the arts. I have wanted to be a graphic designer since I was 12 so I followed my passion throughout school, obtained my qualification in the form of a university degree and began work as a freelance graphic designer. I have never looked back!

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Accepted Answer

Not one in particular, however many of my clients are very happy when I accept their urgent jobs or provide an accurate yet cheaper quote for a job where a previous designer has unfortunately over-quoted or accepted a job without delivering.

What do you like most about your job?

The ability to create designs that serve their purpose as intended for my clients. I feel humbled when a client commends my work for going beyond their expectations.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

Clients should ask if the designer can produce the work with all functions necessary and show an example for reference.  How long should a project take - the quoted price should be similar to actual but make sure you inform the designer if the work may need to be revised more than assumed.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

"When can you have this ready for me?/Are you able to complete this by...?" This is a simple yes or no question, I will not mislead my clients if I cannot meet a deadline.  "Can we use this image?" Again it's a simple yes or no. Purchased images yes, downloaded/licencesless images, no.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I am reliable because I am easily contacted around the clock and I will not waste mine or my clients time at any point, be it quote, initial draft, final or post completion. I am trustworthy as I truly value and respect my clients and the work that I produce.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I am an honest and hardworking designer, and I pride myself in being well prioritised. I am easily accessible as I communicate around the clock. I have never missed a deadline and will deliver any given task as pre-approved.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I need to know who the client is; what the project encompasses; what is the purpose of the finished work; what is the timeframe/deadline for the project; and any additional materials necessary (printing, copyrighted images in clients possession or will images need to be purchased, etc).

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1. Ensure you have al the content necessary for the project initially. 2. Research and provide all inspiration for the project at hand - this will limit the number of revisions later. 3. Communication is key to ensuring I understand the full scope of the project.

Clients that would like to continue their services with me beyond the first project, I will charge all subsequent projects at a lower rate of $25 per hour.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I charge $30 per hour which I believe is a very fair and considerate fee for a graphic designer of my level of experience.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I charge by the hour (at a rate of $30p/hour). I find this is an efficient means of allowing the client full customisation of the project, whereas a fixed fee often means limited flexibility for larger projects.

I specialise in typography and typesetting. I have produced a variety of publications from prospecti to programs, and flyers to forms.

Apart from my tertiary qualification, I have worked for 2 years as a graphic designer with a diverse range of clients to meet their graphic needs. Through my experience, I am motivated in designing to encompass all my skills.
