How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I wanted to work in a field that assists people and that allows me to work locally. Going through uni property law was my favourite subject and I’ve also been drawn to the complexity that sits in the background of a Conveyancing transaction.

Having a purchaser negotiate a lower price on the property because of a bad building report is always enjoyable - especially when the purchaser is a first home buyer, when cash can be tight!

I absolutely love helping people buying or selling property because it is such an exciting time of their lives. I get to make a difference to my clients lives everyday. I love working for myself because I can be flexible for clients without having to ask permission from anyone else.

Do I need pest and building reports? Usually, yes you should have a property inspected as part of your initial review of the property. The reports will tell you whether the structure is in a good condition for its age, and whether there is evidence of termites or other pests at the property.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Invoices are issued to be paid at the settlement of each matter, however vendors are asked to pay for the costs of preparing a contract upfront (for only the fees I incur ordering contract documents). Most fees are taken directly from settlement funds so you don’t need to pay directly.

I am Newcastle raised and have worked here for almost a decade as a lawyer in Conveyancing and property, wills and estates. I hold the required practicing certificate with NSW Law Society and am of course covered by insurance. I work in both paper and electronic settlements.
