What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?
Here is a list of the most commonly asked questions: How does carpet effect the health of my family? A survey conducted by the IICRC found that more than eight out of 10 U.S. homeowners feel their family’s health is directly related to the cleanliness of floors in the home. The survey results, in conjunction with other similar findings, also discuss a long-standing misperception that carpet is the least effective type of flooring when it comes to minimizing conditions that aggravate allergies. In reality, the opposite is true. Scientific studies have shown carpet to be more effective in trapping allergens keeping them from becoming airborne inside the home. The key is proper cleaning. The IICRC offers 10 tips for simple clean-up to improve indoor air quality: Keep Walkway and Entries Clean – Start by keeping outside sidewalks, entry areas, porches and steps clean. Sweep, dust, vacuum or use a leaf blower to remove soil and debris from entries to eliminate tracking into the facility. Use Mats to Trap Soil at Entries – Outside and interior mats to trap and contain particles and moisture should be placed at each entry. This not only extends the life of carpet, it greatly reduces the quantity of particles that enter and build up within traffic areas, eventually becoming airborne. Clean Shoes at Entries – Studies conducted by professional engineers on carpet dust samples indicate that fine particles containing lead are reduced by cleaning or removing and leaving shoes at the entry. Purchase and Use High Quality Vacuum Equipment – A quality, durable upright vacuum with brush agitation is a must. Price is not as important as quality. Check trade or consumer magazines and expect sales persons to provide technically accurate information. Also, check the Carpet and Rug Institute’s list of vacuums that qualify for the Green Label Program at www.carpet-rug.org. Use High Efficiency Vacuum Filter Bag – Using high-efficiency double-lined vacuum filter bags can filter out 99 percent of particles down to one micron or less in size. Avoid cheap paper filter bags that remove particles down to seven microns only. Small particles that pass easily through paper filter bags are a major source of respiratory irritation, as well as household dust. Vacuum Frequency – Consumers should increase the frequency of vacuuming to stop soil from sifting downward and becoming embedded in the carpet pile. Vacuuming should be done more slowly in entry areas where most particle soils accumulate. Vacuum slowly over traffic areas two or three times. Heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) Filters – Use quality pleated or reusable electrostatic filters for HVAC systems. Reusable filters have acrylic rods that vibrate and create a static electricity that charges soil particles, thereby attracting them to the filter. Anticipate a cost of between $50 and $100 for quality filters. Reusable filters should be removed and flushed free of collected soils on a monthly basis. Clean the Carpet – Professional hot water extraction cleaning lifts and suspends fine particles of soil. Then careful extraction flushes them from carpet fibers. Clean Other Soft Surfaces – Clean upholstery, drapery, bedding and other fabric surfaces regularly; wash linens weekly to remove allergens. Control Moisture and Humidity – Dust mites and mold are the two most common allergens present in higher humidity climates. Dust mite infestation can be eliminated if the relative humidity of a home/building, not just a particular area, is consistently maintained below 50 percent. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Customers commonly ask us if there is a discount that we can offer them. We tell our customers all the ways that they can save money before we show up at the door like pre-vacuuming, moving the furniture they want moved to clear the area to be cleaned and we ALWAYS INSTRUCT OUR CUSTOMERS ON THE SPECIALS AND/OR PRICE DEALS THAT ARE BEING OFFERED AT THE TIME OF CONTACT even if they don't ask us. We strive for satisfied repeat customers. We are also commonly asked if the dry-carpet cleaning method is as good as the steam (hot water extraction) method of cleaning. The steam cleaning (hot water extraction) method is the method recommended by the major carpet
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
####ASK IF THE CARPET TECHNICIAN THAT WILL CLEAN THE CARPET IF CERTIFIED AND THROUGH WHAT CERTIFICATION PROVIDING ORGANIZATION!#### ####ASK THE CARPET TECHNICIAN TO EMAIL YOU THEIR CERTIFICATION NUMBER AND TO BRING THEIR CERTIFICATION CARD TO THE JOB FOR YOU SEE#### ####ASK THE COMPANY TO EXPLAIN TO YOU STEP BY STEP WHAT THE PROCESS IS THAT THEY WILL USE TO CLEAN YOUR CARPET AND THIS INCLUDES WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE SKIMPING ON CHEMICALS AND ONLY USING WATER AND RIPPING YOU OFF!!!!#### Rip-off #1: UNBELIEVABLY LOW PRICE. To some degree, all of us are attracted to low prices because we want to work within a budget. But some carpet cleaners use price as the bait for their false and misleading advertising. They offer a cheap price - and then, once they're in your home, they pressure you into buying "add-ons." It's as if you were buying a car and found that the dealer was charging you extra for the tires and steering wheel. Carpet cleaning is not as cheap as some unethical carpet cleaners would like you to believe. Rip-off #2: BAIT AND SWITCH. Dual process carpet cleaning describes the process of shampooing or heavy preconditioning, followed with hot water extraction cleaning. Unfortunately, unethical carpet cleaners often use dual process as a bait and switch technique. Here's how it's done: first, they "bait" you with a basic cleaning (single process) at an unbelievably low price. Then, when you call, they try to "switch" you to more expensive dual-process cleaning. If you don't fall for their switch and choose their basic service, you'll most likely receive poor workmanship using little or no cleaning solution and they will not guarantee their work. Rip-off #3: UNSUPPORTED CLAIMS. "THIS CLEANING METHOD IS THE VERY BEST." You'll read this in almost every ad. You'll hear this from virtually every carpet cleaner. Remember this: The method that's best for you is the method that achieves your goal. If you want a method that dries quickly, then a method that takes a long time to dry isn't the best for you. So before you choose a carpet cleaner, identify your objectives. Rip-off #4: OUT DATED BELIEFS. "HOT WATER DAMAGES YOUR CARPET." Years ago, many people believed this was true because their carpets were damaged by "technicians" who didn't know how to properly clean using hot water. But today, we know it's false. By washing and then rinsing your carpet with hot water, your carpet is thoroughly cleaned in the same way that the person who showers and then rinses off the dirt and soap will be much cleaner than the person who takes only a sponge bath is. Obviously, each carpet cleaner will be biased toward his own cleaning method. And each method does have advantages. So I suggest you look to what carpet manufacturers say. Shaw Industries, the largest carpet manufacturer in the world, recommends hot water extraction with a truck mounted unit.
What do you like most about your job?
I LOVE watching the positive reactions to the carpet cleaning jobs we provide our customers. There's nothing like the smile from a satisfied customer to make you feel good about a job well-done. We also love being able to provide a high quality carpet cleaning job within an industry flooded with sub-par cleaning professionals that lend a BAD NAME to the industry in respect to luring customers in with a low price and neglecting to tell the customers that they will receive POOR QUALITY in return! We really enjoy listening to our customers who have had bad experiences with untrained, unqualified carpet cleaners and BLOWING THEIR MIND WITH OUR HIGH LEVEL of cleaning results.
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
We once had to clean a carpet in an precious metals factory with major soiling that many other company's had attempted to clean with no luck. As we were setting up our equipment many employees of this large company commented on the fact that "cleaning that carpet is impossible!" My wife and I looked at each other with a grin and happily replied, "Were up for the challenge". When we came were half done with the job the same employees that walked by, walked by during a lunch break and they could not believe that we managed to clean the carpet we had cleaned. We simply thanked them for there feedback and continued to clean the rest of the carpet. We love a good challenge but we love a satisfied customer even more!
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
My wife and I owned and operated a commercial/industrial cleaning company and we began cleaning carpet for our customers. We then enjoyed cleaning the carpets so much we ventured out into cleaning carpets for real estate agents and for home owners and renters. We love watching a carpet brought back to life with our steam/hot water extraction methods.
