Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

WA Painters operate at a professional level and have all relevant insurances in place. Workers compensation, Public liability 20mil, Vehicle, tolls of trade and a whole lot more. These insurances are designed to protect the Client the Company and our Staff. Should there be an unfortunate incident, you will have peace of mind, knowing we have you covered from sign up to completion. Guarantee of our work. This is the greatest insight you’ll ever get into a company’s integrity and honesty. Here at WA Painters we don’t say 15 Year unconditional guarantee to anything. We don’t tell you what you want to hear. We tell the truth and the truth is we cannot personally guarantee something we do not manufacture ourselves. More realistically, we support our clients, in the unlikely event that should something happen after completion; WA Painters will pursue all aspects to a resolution on your behalf, through the manufacturers’ warrantee/guarantee In short.  WA Painters guarantee Labour for 3 months (120 days) under the defects and liability clause set by the Painters Registration Board. Your Warrantee however extends beyond this and conforms to the paint manufacturers Guarantee/Warrantee. In most cases the Guarantee/Warrantee is 7 to 10 years.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I was 12 years old when I started my first business (a really tiny one though), that was repainting bicycles from school. I had an old bike and decided I would do it up. The result was so good that other kids wanted their bikes done too. So for $2 we would strip the bike, sand it, spray it and put it all back together. I must have made $20 bucks with that business.  Though whilst I didn’t make Forbes top 500, i made a lot of friends who really appreciated what i had done and hence, I was destined to become a painter.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

There are so many. The one I love the most, which happens often is. "I’m so glad your company cared enough to offer advice, 'cause I was about to paint my room black" lol.  Our service statement is not to be opinionated, but to offer support and direction to what we believe is the most important aspect of painting. COLOUR!! It is a fact that even the best done job can look bad if the colours clash.

What do you like most about your job?

Painting and Decorating is right up there with the Oscars.  It is a feel good trade that offers daily doses of appreciation for what we do and create. After a hard day of sanding, moving furniture, climbing up and down ladders, painting and so on………The client walks in ……..and that warm fuzzy feeling you get from seeing their facial WOW factor makes it all seem worth will, every time.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Do you have a web site? This is the best way to see what the company is all about. If the painting company claims to be professional and stable, then their web site will reflect the claim. Look for photos of work done; though be diligent as there are companies out there that steal (theft) photos from other web sites. The best way to tell if the photos are genuine is to use a program like Tinyeye. This will show you where the photo came from and if it is genuine or not. An email address that uses @(their company name) is also a good sign of professional and stable structure. A free email address displays a lack of internal development and often indicates a newly formed or poorly developed infrastructure that reflects their service and workmanship. Remember good presentation, means good intent.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Customers often want to know when we can start the job.  As a decision has been made to paint, most people are eager to see the change and obviously anxiously excited. To this end, disappointment is easily achieved and therefore paramount that when a booking date is set, that date stay’s set.  The most common question is will you be on time? The answer is YES.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

Our commitment to quality is on par with our commitment to service. To complete the company profile, it is paramount that both go hand in hand. Here at WA Painters we have noted that neither has any effect without the other. As a rule to our industry, TRUST is taken for granted and so it should be. We are often left alone to carry out our works whilst the clients are either at work or away. In order to achieve trust, most clients need to know that the company they are dealing with has the following key points; 1.	Has been established for some time. 2.	Have systems and procedures that regulate safe trade practice. 3.	Has more to loss by reputation than can be gained from theft. If you conclude these three factors exist, then it is most likely there is no call for concern and you are in safe hands. We are a company of ethical trading and upfront honesty.  WA Painters has never had a recorded incident that would suggest otherwise.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I love this? Definitely, not because we are cheaper.  Acknowledging that value for money is an important aspect, so too is satisfaction with that value. There is no sense in defying logic. If the price is too good to be true, then one thing is certain, the bitter taste of regret will linger on long after the sweet taste of having saved a few bob has been soured. I blame two people for failed projects associated with budget constraints. The Painter for quoting under budget and the client for employing him. In answer to the question, only to ensure that their requirements are meet.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

In most cases site inspections can be eliminated with small works. If a customer requires a couple of rooms painted or some general maintenance, then having photos and a description of the works, is generally adequate to provide a fixed quote. Please note. Basic requirements are; 1.	Contact Name and Contact phone # 2.	Address of property, or at least the suburb (most important) 3.	A brief description of works. 4.	An expected start and finish date 5.	Colours (if already chosen) 6.	Pdf document of house plan. (if you have one). The more information the customer provides, the better equipped we are to handle their inquiry.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Project management is the key to cutting cost and is best implemented at all levels, including the client. 1.	Plan and coordinate; know your schedule and plan in advance with enough leeway for any contingencies. 2.	Read and understand your quote fully. Never assume without confirmation that both parties know what is going on. 3.	Talk to a WA Painters representative and seek advice pertaining to application stages of your project. As an example; in most cases it is beneficial to seal the walls before all the fittings are installed. The timing of this can be achieved through communication.  Remember we are the most qualified to complete the project activities that include preparation, moving furniture and so on.  I have sadly seen client’s scratch their timber floors moving furniture for us and apply the wrong wall filler or cleaning agent, because they want to help or safe cost. The end result is the opposite. This is best left to us.

The biggest problem in maintenance is record keeping. Very few know when the paint job was done or what colour and sheen the paint is. Even worse, whose paint was used? What makes your pricing competitive?

Value for money. Have you ever shopped for a TV and decided to go with the cheaper brand, so you can safe a bit of money and feel as though you’ve had a win? Only to get home and realize that the saving was sacrificial as your appreciation of the less than beautifully clear picture grows into regret that you didn’t get the one you really wanted. Every time you turn on the TV, you’ll be reminded of that. On the other hand. If you didn’t do the above and went for the better model. You’ll never think about what you could have saved. You’ll only stare and admire with appreciate to what you have. I say this because I have seen all too often, what an underfunded project can produce. The end result is stressful and often complicated with rectification cost that can sometimes exceed the original quote. The responsibility resides with both parties. The client and the contractor. I’m not necessarily saying go with us. I’m saying be very careful with the decision to employ the cheapest tender. Especially if it is significantly cheaper than the other quotes. Remember an unregistered or even unethical painter can simply cut their losses and walk away, leaving you with the problem.

How do you normally charge for your service?

We believe that in order to achieve great results, the success of the project starts with the budget. Our quoting system is so thorough, that our report not only shows the total value quoted, it also has a page that list every item including 'length, width, height and so on, with individual items priced separately so you can see exactly what the quoted items are. This is full proof, as it protects both the client and us from any confusion as to what is and isn’t in the quote.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Yes there are several: We love Insurance & maintenance work; however we are specialist in substrate analogy and troubleshooting.  Our extended skills are in wallpaper hanging and epoxy floor coatings which include Terraflake seamless flooring.  Minor carpentry works, (doors replaced) Plastering, (ceilings repaired, retaped, etc) Our highly trained and competent staff can handle all maintenance tasks that conform to our licensed registration.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Well since the bicycle, my team and i have achieved the;  Master Painters Award of Excellence. – Bedfordale Heritage Award for restoration. – Fremantle Master Builders Award (Associated award). – Inglewood Vogue (design award – colour scheme). – Fremantle Apprentice of the year Award. – (Dan Smith, now our Foreman) Q-Build Historic Restoration Award. – Claremont. (120 yr. old court house).  We are accredited applicators with most major paint manufacturers and cover the ‘no job too big or small’ statement, literally. As our service ranges from Insurance repairs and maintenance, to Defence services with Anzac Navy Vessels.
