What do you like most about your job?

The freedom!  It's great to be able to chose my own hours and work remotely.    It results in better quality work and the work gets done faster when not facing the tedium of set hours.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Most design services claim they're better than the competition for the same set of reasons.  I.e. they're friendly, they're affordable, they design nice looking graphics and websites, etc.  For me, it all comes down to dedication.  I put in the extra effort to ensure my clients are satisfied.   Simple things like following up on projects, or making note of when webpages require updating or creating simple diagrams to help illustrate things which may otherwise be overly technical.  I never abandon my clients for a better offer

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I need to their objectives, primarily: - What is the purpose of the project? - What is the optimum results they would like to achieve - What is their preferred method of communication?  I.e. face to face meetings consume more time than Emails - How large is the project? - Who is the target audience?

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1. By having a clear idea of how their project should look and/or function.  Some people are indecisive and will continually alter designs or change features.    2. Being prepared to maintain and update the website themselves.  While not everybody has the technical skills  this can drastically reduce on going costs.  3. Using a web hosting provider who does not charge excessive fees.  I had one client, who dispute my instance continued to use a hosting provider that charged extortionary fees.    It got worse when the client had their major annual event and experienced a spike in web traffic.  This resulted in a $4,200+ excess usage data fee for that month which could have been avoided had the client taken my advice.

How do you normally charge for your service?

By the hour, however, before commencing I consult the client and provide an initial quote so they have an indication of how much the project will cost.  I also document each project, which include the start and finish times, the cost and a summary of all tasks completed.  I keep my service as transparent as possible.
