Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Yes I pay a lot of money for insurance and I have always guaranteed my work not just that I take pride in the work that I do, (old school training I think) but a returned customer who recommends your services is the most cost effective way to advertise your services.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I began my apprentiseship with the dept of Navy at Garden Island and the part I like about my work was the installation and repair side of the business and so I decided to find the best electrician who had a private business and began working for him untill I learnt as much as I could and went to another electrician and after a while I started my own electrical business in Balgowlah in Sydney at a yong age and have been working for myself ever since.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Yes, the day I was called to customer who had just moved into a large two story house, it was empty as he had just moved in, he reported a strange noise coming from inside the house and suggested to me that is was electrical in nature. After following him around all over the house I could not hear a single sound, he took me into his bedroom and pulled out from his bedside draw a small tape recorder and frustrated with my lack of hearing proceeded to record the noise. It was after several attemps of trying to record this weird sound that he suddenly looked at me in disbelief and said, I am sorry but I just realised what the noise is, it is my faulty hearing aid.

What do you like most about your job?

What I like about my work as an electrician is that I get to meet people from all over the Gold Coast and because I am a one man business I choose the sort of work I like to do such as electrical repair, upgrading digital TV receptions. I like anything that is challanging plus it keeps me fit.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Ask them how long have they been in business, who have they worked for locally and can they give you any customer refferences, unfortunately most people don't like to ask such questions but prefer to judge for themselves, and just take a look at their work van, a good trades person will be organised and have a well set out van.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

The most common question my customers ask me is: Can this job be done in a reasonable time, as most people are trying to get the job done with out costing an arm and a leg. I normally discuss this with the customer and work out the best way to go about the work, another question I get asked is how do I cut my electricity costs, well I go asked this question so much I wrote an eBook that can be downloaded for free from my website plus a free weekly newsletter telling them how to reduce their electricity cost, full of tips and hints.

Yes this is simple, if your neigbour or relative recommends a tradesman then you can be almost certain you are getting the right person for the job and check out their work van, if it is tidy and well organised then you can be certain that so will be the job they do for you.

I provide a variety of services such as Electrical, TV, Phone and Data. For all your electrical repairs and installations, extra TV , phone, data outlets, I provide a one stop service for Gold Coast residents. As I work by myself I can afford to keep my charges down and offer pesioner discounts. I have been operating Abba Electrical on the Gold Coast since 1991.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Before I provide a quote I need to know the type of house, is it a single story with a tile roof, I can give a quote over he phone for this type of construction, but if it is a double story house with a tin roof I will need to visit your home and although many say the quotes are free the cost of preparing a difficult and time costing quote does get added to the job. It does help if the customers can send photos of the house and layout sometimes but mostly it is best to see the house, simply because a lot of quotes do include contingency costs and believe me, they are mostly required as nothing is as ever simple as you might think.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

This is simple, Number one is to be prepared, work out all the things you need doing and make a list and email that list to me so I can bring any special gear I will need. Number two is be flexiable in what you want and where you want it because I can suggest simple and cost effective ways to carry out the work. Some requests can add a lot of cost to a job and the more flexiabe your are in what you want can save you a lot of money. And number three, offer to help the electrician, carring his equipment, helping him during the job etc. Because I work alone any sort of help to save time on the job will save a lot of money.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

I can offer my Oneflare customers good service at a fair price and quality work, I can however offer a special deal of charge only a $50 service charge for the first half hour instead of my normal service charge of $80 however I will provide this special price to any one who reminds me of this specical price as I have set costs and will need to be reminded, OK.

What makes your pricing competitive?

What makes my pricing competitive is that I work alone and don't have a great deal of overheads, I treat every job fairly and never charge for the time to get any special item I don;t have on board my van although I carry a wide range of electrical gear because time is money and I have a policy of NO Call Backs which means I pride myself in doing quality work with quality material.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I normally charge a service charge of $80 for the first half hour and then $80 per hour after that. This allows me to stay vialble in business and offer a no job too small policy which means I can accomplish most small jobs in less then an hour. Longer jobs that take a day I don't add the service charge and I like to be fair and depending on the situation I offer a generous pensioner discount. I normally work only on week days but sometimes I get called out after hours but I don't mind doing this for my regular customers.

I try to cover all areas such as electrical, TV Data and phone but it seems that I do more work with TV reception problems and electrical fault finding. However I pride myself in being able to offer my customers a one stop electrical service.

My experiece come from the many years I have ben working for myself, I pride myself in being able to solve most domestic electrical problems within a half an hour. The repairs may take a short while or a long time, and then there is the new skills I have taken on as with new technologies such as Data, and the latest and one of the most interesting of new technologies is the area of digital TV reception.
