I came into this line of work through chasing and  being offered to do an electrical apprenticeship in the Australian military.

I only provide quotes once I visually inspect all jobs. I never quote over the phone.This saves both parties a lot of problems.

1. remove any obstacles that are currently in the way of the proposed work area as it may cost more in labour if the electrician has to do it once on site. 2.if the customer knows definitely of the accessories and style thereof they want e.g. fans ,lights. power points,pre purchase them.

Being a smaller business we don't have larger overheads to meet as is the situation with a larger electrical contracting firm therefore our pricing is lower.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I charge an initial 1 hour charge minimum on arrival at the job site followed by a fixed hourly rate.

I would prefer to focus on providing a breakdown/repair /maintenance service to customers but will look at installation work as well.

I have 10 years experience as a self employed Electrical Contractor and 30yrs experience overall in the electrical industry in military, local government, resources and private sectors. Areas of career experience took in urban,rural,remote,national and international.
