How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I started working in nurseries at 15 years old. From there I became interested in plants and worked in landscaping and garden maintenance until I was 23. It was then that I started my own landscaping business.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

The level of experience of landscapers varies greatly, especially with regard to plant and irrigation knowledge.  The question I`d be asking is "What experience do you have?"

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Accepted Answer

Do I install retaining walls, concrete paths, paving etc? Through a network of subcontractors I`m able to deliver on all of the above as part of the greater landscape. In this way I coordinate and take responsibility for all of the elements of the job from start to finish.

I do regular work on a number of properties and I`m more than happy to pass on details of references.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I`ve been a landscaper for over 20 years and am experienced in garden design and construction as well as irrigation design and installation. I have extensive plant knowledge and work with my customers to design gardens that are practical and suit their lifestyles.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Accepted Answer

It`s best that I meet with you on site so that we can get an idea of where all the elements of the garden will go and how they will fit together. I`ll also need to flow test your water supply if you need irrigation installed. I can then develop a plan and give a firm quote.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Have a site plan with buildings, fences, paths, boundaries etc. marked in. I can do this for you if you prefer. Write down the names of a handful of plants you like You can get a feel for this by looking online or perhaps visiting a nursery. Think about what you want to be able to use your garden for. Do you want a BBQ area? A shed? A water feature? A sitting/reflection area?

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

I can quote your job and give a lump sum price for all works. If needed I can work with any subcontractors that may be need and project manage the job from start to finish. On smaller jobs I`m happy to work on an hourly rate if that suits you.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Accepted Answer

I`ve worked in the industry for over 20 years on both large and small projects including new schools, commercial buildings, display homes and residential houses and units. I also have experience working with developers on large subdivisions including the building of parks and streetscapes.
