Accepted Answer

Yes.  Our director is a Registered Builder (Landscape, Retaining Walls and Fence Categories).  This is a requirement for landscape works over $12,000, and at times where a building permit is required to undertake works (e.g. decks, front fences).  We hold public liability and professional indemnity insurances and we maintain professional affiliations to keep abreast of industry and legislative changes.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

We are a complete garden care business, specialising in residential gardens.  Our director is a registered builder (for landscaping, retaining walls and fences) and a licenced plumber (urban irrigation).  We have an in-house garden designer and staff with plant care qualifications.  Our business maintains industry memberships (Landscaping Victoria and Master Builders Association of Victoria) and we keep abreast of industry trends.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Either a landscape design, or a very clear scope of works is required to provide a quotation.  A site plan, to scale, will provide us with measurement details required to prepare a firm quotation.  Desired Landscapes does hold an in-house designer and provides a consultation service if you are seeking the skills of a knowledgeable professional to provide advice, prior to quotation.

1. Choose a professional to provide advice, or design expertise to your garden.  So much money can be wasted on plants and constructions that are not properly thought out. 2. Have a master plan for the garden aspects of your property.  Even if you can't afford to undertake all of the elements at once, draw (or engage a professional to plan out) your site, and all of your foreseeable garden needs.  This way, you won't waste money down the track. 3. You get what you pay for.  Make decisions about what is important to you and the quality that you expect. Sometimes, a little more investment from the start will avoid ongoing maintenance costs, or increase the longevity of a landscaped area.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Our Director, Brendan Doyle, has operated Desired Landscapes for over 15 years.  Through that time, we have gained knowledge of the landscape materials and products that can best stand the test of time in outdoor environments.  We don't propose to use cheaper materials, or take short-cuts at the expense of good quality work, but are happy to suggest less expensive materials and decisions where appropriate.  We are highly competitive when the quality of our landscape work is taken into consideration, and we believe that choosing a landscape gardener is not just about price... it is about choosing confidence in the knowledge and skills of the landscape professional.

Residential Gardens.  We live and work in the eastern and south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and hold interest and understanding for the requirements, trends and wants of suburban and inner-suburban gardens.

Our Director is a Registered Builder (Landscape, retaining walls and fences) and a Licenced Plumber (Urban Irrigation).  You can rest assured that our construction work meets industry, legal and insurance expectations.  We have in an in-house garden designer who holds a Certificate IV in Applied Design (Landscape) and achieved outstanding student success (Best Student Award 2010 and Winner of the Don Fleming Award within the 2010 Melbourne International Garden Show) We employ landscape gardeners and qualified plant specialists to complete our garden service.
