How did you decide to get into your line of work?

My two Grandfathers were very good with their hands and were always working on a project in their respective sheds. They would often invite me in to join them and I developed an interest from those years. After spending 13 years in Banking and Finance, I decided to pursue this line of work as a career. I've now got 17 years experience behind me and wanting to share my knowledge and successes with like minded individuals through Franchising.

I am constantly in communication with my clients. They know I will be on time every time and if unable to make an agreed time, they will be quickly informed and a new time agreed on.

17 years experience is hard to beat, but the comfort my clients have with me is developed through a client first approach where I demonstrate respect and courtesy for them in every interaction. I'm looking to maintain a relationship with my clients that lasts for as long as they are property owners, not just for the one job, so trust, honesty, integrity and ethical practice are not negotiable.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

To assist my client with an accurate and fair quote, I need to understand the detail of the work that is to be undertaken, right down to the paint colour and the sheen. Every detail is important and nothing can be left behind. I spend considerable time with my clients at the quote meeting, to ensure that all is understood, and I take detailed notes, pics and sketches are drawn to ensure the task is completely understood. The quote is the most detailed in my industry, so there is no confusion as to what is being completed and my clients have a strong understanding as to what we are on-site to complete.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

When undertaking any renovation projects, saving money is vital, but sometimes compromising on price is not the best course of action. I don't like to discuss price with my clients and I will not discuss budget.  We discuss the job and price accordingly. If there are options to save money where integrity of the work or the materials is not compromised these will be discussed and recommendations made, but it is up to the client to determine whether they are in the right financial position to proceed or not. Every job is different.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have 17 years experience across the repairs and maintenance industry.  Completing this amount of work over this period of time gives you experience across most things and as the client is the boss, I don't get paid unless the job is completed to a satisfactory level.  I am currently completing a Diploma of Building & Construction which will assist me in becoming a Registered Builder.  There aren't that many Handy men/women out there with this experience and this qualification, so I am certainly the right person to handle your job - big or small.
