Had the Bathroom & Laundry renovated by Ken in June 2019 and about 3 months later a door came off a cupboard in the kitchen. I had not meant to renovate the Kitchen so close to the other job but this meant it had to be done. So it was back to Ken to see what he could come up with for the kitchen. After a couple of designs and a few changes it was left to Ken to see if we could fit it in before Xmas. The majority was done in time for Xmas with a couple of minor things to be done in 2020. I now have a very modern kitchen with plenty of space and light. Once again a great job by Ken and his crew - thanks guys. Read more

Frequently Asked Questions
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
With 35 years of experience building new homes and renovating older ones we have the solution to your residential housing needs. Each home and renovation has different requirements, personal tastes and budgets. When you don't know where to start call Ken McKay Homes.
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
I started my apprenticeship in 1984 as a carpenter for AV Jennings. After completing that I subcontracted to them before moving into estimating and supervision with them too. I then went back to subcontracting to various builders before gaining my builders license 1998.
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
Residential homes are my forte, New homes, Bathroom and full house renovations. Everything from architectural to project homes. With a number of awards over the years quality is not by accident.
How do you normally charge for your service?
Projects are quoted on their merit. No two homes , renovations or clients are the same. I discuss the requirements of each client then tailor the project to suit their needs.
Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?
We are insured and have been for over 20 years. Quality is our guarantee, if you have a problem call us. We didn't win awards by accident.
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
Everything we do is based on honesty and integrity. We don't make promises that we don't intend to keep. That's is why we spend the time at the start to understand what you are trying to achieve so we can help you get there.
What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?
How much doe's it cost to build a house or what is the cost per m2. How much doe's it cost to renovate a bathroom. Anyone who give you a straight out figure has not asked you the right questions. So much goes into compiling an accurate quote is not that straight forward.
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
Are you licensed and what is your trade? People may see that a person has a QBCC license but what was their trade? There are people out there who have builders licenses and never did a trade.
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
I have clients that were looking to build a house. They were getting married and intended to have kids. I mentioned to the male that he was going to come home to and unhappy wife because of their plans. I explained why, we altered the plans. A few years later they said the changes made all the difference.
