Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

Mosman Bathroom Renovations has public liability insurance, workers compensation insurance we are of course fully licensed. We guarantee our work for the Statutory 7 years after completion as long as no one has played around with things in the interim. E.G. drilled holes in waterproof membranes.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Tiling hides a multitude of evils. I became pretty tired of covering up or disguising some pretty average workmanship. I taught myself how to do it all competently or a least to be a good judge.  I found once i was the lead contractor I made my own destiny. It's all in the preparation.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I have many. I guess to generalise the best customer stories are when you turn up to do a small job and get to talking. You get asked "can we do this" or "is this possible" before you know it you've not just fixed a powder room there are three completed full bathroom renovations and you're wondering how you are now in the neighbours house on the second one for them. Later that afternoon you're  going across the road  to do another quote.

What do you like most about your job?

Every job is different in some way. Requests and expectations also vary. I'd say that taking an old run down smelly embarrassment of a room and turning it into a place you now herd friends and family towards to show it off can be quite rewarding.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

My Grandfather said  to me once about interviewing prospective employees " never ask a question you don't know the answer to" Find something you know only an expert should know or have a strong opinion on and ask each man that question you then be the judge.

Mostly questions like "are you licensed" "insured" "are you workers insured" "how long will the job take" "have you been doing this long" 'Can I get your trade discount!"

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

As you will have come to realise I have many competitors. Reliability and trustworthiness go to our good reputation which we can't afford to risk. Ive tried to work it out in the past week or so , we're somewhere over 300 renovations in many, many different houses. You can't get along with everyone but no one has called us untrustworthy.

We are just around the corner.  We are experts in tiling related renovations As a local business we stand on the quality of our work and your continuing support in the community.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Where is the main fuse box. What size tiles are you using. Is the contract time critical. Are there any special conditions or things to be considered that could reasonably be foreseen to annoy me or disrupt the critical path of your project.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

If you are purchasing your own materials have all of it on site or at least download all specs before you do anything. Don't buy the cheapest items you can find or miracle specials. Too good to be true usually is. Auctions CAN be the bottom of the barrel.  Consult anybody you may be upsetting to ensure they are involved and considered.

As I write we are coming into Autumn. Due to personal experience with my own renovation a few years ago I like to advise clients where possible while they have the opportunity to install underfloor heating. I would like to offer Oneflare users free installation on underfloor heating on units up to 8m/2. Big enough for most bathrooms.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I would reiterate that we are a local business. We don't charge travelling time and have great relationships with many local suppliers. We turn up every day and only charge for the work we do while we are there. There are no "Mosman Prices"

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

Usually the main variant in bathroom renovations is the cost of the fittings and fixtures a vanity can be $200 or $5000 so I usually work out how many days a job will take then add your chosen materials on top unless you already have them

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Accepted Answer

Many builders don't like bathroom renovations because of the small area and the fact you need to use 6 or more trades for the job. I am proficient in all these trades however I am an expert in wall and floor tiling.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

As the owner I fixed my first tile in 1989. In 1997 I was registered as a Bathroom renovator. While I do all sorts of different building projects I like to do bathroom renovations as a specialty.
