Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

Yes. One Touch Electrics has $20 mill public liability cover. If for any reason OTE's work fails to work it will be repaired free of charge. We do not however carry out repairs to equipment that is under someone else's warranty.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I built a house with my father back in the early 70's. The only part of the construction we couldnt do back then was the electrical wiring. I realised then it was a specialised trade.

I also install lifts for disabled people. I put a lift in a house in Ayre (Qld) Up until then the woman's ability to move around her own house was becoming more and more limited due to her illness. When she used the lift for the first time she cried in my arms. It was very moving.

Being self employed gives me scope. There are many different electrical fields that I can operate in. I get to meet numerous people.

They should ask to see the tradesman's license and their ABN. Remember, if they are not licensed then warranties and possible insurance claims will be void.

When can I do the work? I learnt a long time ago, not to put unrealistic time constraints on myself. I always try to give precise and accurate arrival times. How much will the a/c cost to run? That will depend on how often you run it, when you run it and how much you pay for your power.

In 38 yrs of working as both a contractor and as an employee, I haven't had one single call back.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Experience and punctuality. I know exactly how annoying it is when tradesmen leave you hanging. I wont do it. If something eventuates that causes delay, you will be the first to know. That is my promise too you.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Know exactly what you want done. Its a two way street. Tradies don't like surprises either. Access to the work area's. Is it clear? Type of roof design. Peaked, flat, color bond ,tiles? Is the man hole accessible? Is it in a cupboard surrounded by shelves that block access?

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1) Ring me first. I can quite often fault find issues over the phone. And no, that doesn't mean your playing with shocko. 2) Set A/C settings with a wider dead band. This dramatically lowers energy consumption.  3) Switch your lights off. An empty room doesn't need light.

Fixed quoted price for air conditioning installation. An hourly rate for call outs and do and charge work. Payment due on completion of quoted jobs.

I specialise in sizing and installing split system air conditioning. With over 38 yrs experience, there's not much I haven't been involved with.

38 yrs experience in domestic, commercial, heavy industry and air conditioning wiring, servicing and fault finding. Cert IV in EEHA, Cert IV in OH&S. Arctic license. Victorian A grade and contractors licenses.
