We had the best experience with Jan from Petstra Gardens. He is very knowledgeable, plans the process very well, sticks to what he quoted, works hard+quick+tidily. The whole job from quoting to doing the work to invoicing was extremely professionally done. We are very happy!

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
We do what we say what we will do and often a lot more.
We listen to you and take note of your expectations and will strive to exceed them.
We love gardens and landscaping and that shows in the pride we take in our work and workmanship. -
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
We're all-round garden landscapers that work with your objectives in mind; deliver quality work, stick to your budget and make sure that the end result is a great garden for years to enjoy.
-
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
Experience - I know a lot but don't pretend to know it all - in landscaping you'll never stop learning so I keep abreast of new techniques, materials and talk to colleagues and trades people about how things could be done better, smarter.
Skills - Apart from having the right trade skills, it's people skills are rather important (staff, sub-contractors, councils, surveyors).
Training - Working with professionals and Top of the Class in my landscaping study at Holmesglen.
Qualifications - Diploma Horticulture - Landscape Landscape Design and Construction -
How do you normally charge for your service?
All services are invoiced.= and can be paid by EFT.
Landscape construction works are quoted or estimated and invoiced upon completion of project stages. -
What makes your pricing competitive?
It's easy to create a garden from a big budget - the challenge is to build a great garden from a limited budget. We're a husband & wife team that work with other trades when and where required, keeping our overheads low. We source the best materials at the best prices and pass on the savings to customers. Our quotes are easily eclipsed by our competitors but the quality of our work is not.
-
Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?
We offer a free 1 hour consult within a range of 25km from our home address (3025).
In this hour we'll listen to your ideas, needs and want and will tell you what is possible and what is required to do what it is what you'd like to get done. -
How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips
1. be clear of what you need, want and what you'd like to have in your garden (magazines, library books and photo's are great help)
2. clear out as much as possible from the space where the works need to get done
3. If you are getting the works done ins stages, make sure that the order is logical and practical. -
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
1. A Brief. A description detailing what it is that you would like: i.e. what you want to do and how you want to feel in your garden, how much time for maintenance you have available, what you wish to keep, what type of garden you'd like
2. Site measurements, drainage and underground services, utility locations, soil sample to determine what soil you have. -
Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?
We carry a $10 million liability insurance, are Work Cover insured and have a Working with Children check.
Our workmanship is guaranteed for 24 months -
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
This question is something that our clients should answer - they have given us their trust and money and we're still welcome to visit the garden we've built for them to see how the garden is developing.
We're open in our communications, will keep you informed and work with you and your budget. But we're not scared of a little bit of friction - friction often leads to a polished result! -
What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?
Please note: these answers are just examples that illustrate what we sometimes are asked - every customer is unique, some clients want daily updates and some are happy to let us do our job.
How much will it cost? Once we have a clear idea of the scope of works we can make a materials list and give you an exact quote or an estimate
How long will it take? Weather permitting, we'll work continuously where practical.
When can you start? After payment of a deposit we will book the job in with a scheduled start within 2 weeks -
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
Qualifications - make sure you hire the right man for the job
ABN or ACN number - so you can verify that the business exists before you hand over your money
References - can they provide references of previous projects
Insurance policies - copies of current policies in place (i.e. WorkCover, Liability) -
What do you like most about your job?
We love being out and about in a garden - after all, it beats any other workplace.
But the most enjoyable part is to see a garden project transform from nothing to a great place to be in.
It's a process, building a garden; planning, sourcing materials, groundwork with sticky clay and noisy machines, building and construction, working around obstacles, keeping the clients informed, installation of features, soil preparation, planting.... and mulching when its finished. The best moment is when we do the 'Handover': walking you through your garden or outdoor living space and explaining and reiterating what's been done, what it does need in terms of maintenance and giving you a booklet with copies of plan as its been completed, the plant lists and their maintenance requirements.
Because then we've done our job and you'll have your garden back! -
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
Kids are the best judges they say...
We've built 2 playgrounds at childcare/preschool centres; one in Spotswood, one in South Kingsville.
The official customers off course is management and staff of the centre but the end users where the kids.
It was great to see these these kids full of anticipation on what's happening with 'their playground' - asking millions of questions repeatedly. And when the project was finished (bike track, dry creek bed with controllable water flow, decking platform, sandpits, rocks and new plants) they walked around precariously, discovering their new playground, slowly but surely claiming it back and enjoying it as only kids can do. -
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
After years in marketing and project management in manufacturing and building construction, I was given an opportunity to develop my passion for gardens, landscapes and nature into a full time job. I wanted ensure that my business had a good footing so enrolled in a full time diploma horticulture/landscaping course which I concluded with top marks, being awarded the 'Outstanding Student of the Year Award'.
