Frequently Asked Questions
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
We are the only heating & cooling business servicing the entire greater Geelong area and surrounding towns, that give a 7 (seven) year tradesmanship installation guarantee.
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
I've been an electrical contractor since 1980, specializing in heating & cooling installations.
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
Specializing in all types of heating & cooling installations,
Eg Split-systems, Split-ducted systems, Add-on coolers, Evaporative Chillers, Box & window units, Cassette roof-mounted units, Multi-head systems. Gas ducted units .
What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?
"Will I supply a Compliance Certificate" ?
'Am I registered & licensed " ?
"Do I have Public Liability insurance" ?
Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?
Without a doubt.. We are insured, plus we give an unprecedented seven year installation tradesmanship guarantee.
What makes your pricing competitive?
I've been in business since 1980, with thousands of satisfied and repeat-customers .
We are governed by the air conditioning retailers, who set the installation costs, 95% of the time.
We do not brag about being the absolute cheapest, but we do say that all our jobs are guaranteed.
Would having a saving of $30.oo give you peace of mind in seven years time if you cannot get the cheaper installation contractor to return to rectify a faulty installation?
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
Type of building construction.
What systems are the customers looking at getting installed.
How do you normally charge for your service?
Usually a quoted price is better for the customer, as this allows the customer to know the total cost of the installation up front, with no surprises.
If there are a great deal of "Unknowns" with the installations, then these will be costed & the customer informed, before we go ahead... No surprises.
Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?
We will offer a $40.oo discount on each customers installation, who quote having used OneFlare.
How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips
To save money, firstly get the correctly sized unit for the installation :- Too small a unit will struggle in extremities, whereas a unit too big will "Cycle" too often.
Secondly, select a brand of Air Conditioner that you are comfortable with, whether it be a "Name-brand, or a "Bargain-buy".
Then get the correct position for the unit to be installed in :- a large unit that is incorrectly placed will cost more to run, than a smaller unit that is in the ultimate position.
Lastly.. Select a unit that will cost less to run, because a purchase saving of $50.oo may be replaced by an increased running cost of $50.oo per year.
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
The best form of advertising is satisfied customers. we have thousands.
We do not have any affiliations with any particular brands, so we will not be "Pushing" any particular brands.
If you have already bought your unit :- Great...We can install any brand of unit.
We can also pick these units up from the retailer, to save you time & effort, plus having to hire a trailer.
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
The question that I get asked mostly, is :-
"How long have you been installing A/C's for" ?
What do you like most about your job?
After installing thousands of A/C's over the last 34 years, I have to admit that most of the installations are very similar, but the customers are ALWAYS different & fascinating.
The customer interface is what I enjoy most about going to work.
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
Very early-on in my business, I had a fellow electrical contractor friend who had the contract to install heating & cooling systems, but could not figure-out how to make these 8-wire controllers work properly, so I helped him out.
He called me again the next month, because he had a different controller that he could not make work.
Helped him out again.
In the proceeding twelve months, he called for help so many times that he said, "You may as well keep this contract, because I cannot work these controllers out".....
And so began THE SWITCHDOCTOR Heating & Cooling Installations.
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
My favorite customers are my children.
For one thing, they always get "The Best Deal", and when I do installations for them, they repay me with meals, visits, grandchildren & happy times.
