I have public liability insurance. I am a licensed carpenter. I absolutely guarantee my work. I have a high quality standard of work. In the unlikely occasion a fault is found, I will hurry back to correct at no extra charge.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

As I've said before, I needed a change from first fix carpentry. I had been doing it for years, and I enjoy my work more just working by myself. Fitting doors gives me this experience.

I completed a job in seaford recently, where the customer changed all her internal doors from flat doors, to the oakfield design and her front door from a plain brown timber door to a "kookaburra glass" timber door. Ten doors in total. I completed the job in good time. She was so happy with the job, she gave me an extra $50 and insisted that I keep it. I took all her old doors away.

What do you like most about your job?

There is an artisitic aspect to fitting doors, I like that. I also like getting out and meeting new people. I take great pride in my work. I like seeing the different styles of doors, people are personalising their houses with these days.

Can I have your business card? Of course! People like to keep my contact details on hand for friends and family who may need my services. Word of mouth is what keeps businesses like mine competitive.

95% of my jobs are completed on the day planned for them. I am rarely called back to fix a deficiency, and any are fixed promptly.

I have fitted thousands of doors for Australia's largest and well known door company. I can do a professional job for less than half the price that they can. I will install doors from the door company of your choice, rather than being restricted just to one.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Do they already have the doors and hardware? Are the handles standard 54/51mm x 25mm bore locksets, or mortise locksets? Where is the job? Is the house they are to be intalled in more than 30 years old or heavily renovated, please give all door opening dimensions if unsure about how old the house is. On entrance doors with flyscreen/security doors, there needs to be enough room to accomadate the new handle so as to not hit the flyscreen, have you checked this?

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

tip one: remove old doors, or remove doors while i work (stay a door in front), by simply unscrewing the screws from the hinges. Most people should find it quite easy for normal interior hollow doors.  tip two: organize to have all your doors done at once. There are discounts for large volume jobs. tip three: choose handle style carefully. Locks requiring a mortice (please ask if you don't understand) are time consuming to install, standard 54mmx25mm bore locksets will make the job quicker and therefore cheaper.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

$79 per door for anyone who gets 4 or more doors installed. (old door removed prior to install) $695 for a ten door install. (old doors will be taken away). $600 for a french door fit out (labour only).

What makes your pricing competitive?

Being an independant tradie, I have very little overheads and can easily out-compete the bigger companies even if the doors themselves are sourced from those companies.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Per job. Extra discounts for large volume orders. Whole houses get the most value for money. For more complex jobs such as, changing aluminium sliding doors for a french door (double doors) unit, I like to come out and measure up and give a quote after assessing what's involved.

Fitting and hanging doors. As I've said previously, I wanted a change from first-fix carpentry but still wanted to be my own boss, dealing with customers one on one. I am able to do this quite effectively in this area of door fitting. I can also do french door fit outs replacing old aluminium sliding door units

I am a qualified carpenter. Fourteen years experience. I used to be a first-fix carpenter, I did that for many years but grew weary of it and dealing with builders. I much prefer direct contact with the customers and the job itself (door fitting) appeals to my artisitc side.
