Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

We are fully insured with $20m public liability insurance and contractors insurance.  Depending on the work we may require project specific insurance through the Fidelity Fund, which is an NTG requirement. All work is guaranteed in accordance with relevant contracts and industry standards.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

As a small business, and not a company, our work is our livelihood and we take pride in all our work. The work we complete is to the standard that we would expect at our own home and we work with you, with no surprise variations or delays.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

Using a registered builder provides you with the peace of mind that the job will be done right the first time. In addition, Dave has 20 years of experience and 15 years of Darwin knowledge and has built the contacts and reputation of making sure you get quality, and with no surprises.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

- Goal at the end so we can work with you to achieve it - Desired/available budget  - Specific needs or desires in the detail (finishes, fixtures) so we can plan for things - Access (at your convenience) to the property which may include sub contractors to ensure we can provide an accurate quote

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1. Go window shopping to get ideas - visit tile centres, plumbing showrooms and flooring companies etc to get an idea of what you want 2. Find out if you need drawings, or even planning approval  3. Allow time - making the time to get things in order first helps things run efficiently

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

We are small, the owner is usually the person you'll see on the tools. We have an apprentice and another tradesman and don't work with significant overheads.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

Depending on the scale of the work. We will always provide all of the detail we can within a quote so there's no surprises. Most quoted work requires a 25% deposit. Where work is larger in scale and value we may use a HIA contract template, which is often required if there's financing arrangements.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Most aspects of building works are covered, and if there's anything that requires a specific trade, we have the contacts to be able to complete what is required. In particular, we specialise in existing homes (renovations, extensions, structural), decks, verandahs, and small scale commercial work.
