Planning - if you can plan work to be done during normal working hours (eg Monday to Friday) this can have a huge bearing on the cost of a job, reducing weekend, after hours and public holiday charges and penalties.
Documentation - having accurate and up to date plans of your building, property or facility can vastly improve the efficiency of any work carried out, especially with locations of gas and water isolation valves and sewer and storm water inspection points.
Scheduling - Making sure that when a plumber is called they do not have to wait for other trades or access to premises to carry out their work.
These are just a few very basic considerations but they can have a significant impact on the end cost of any work carried out.
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
This may sound simplistic, but the first and most important thing that we need to know before we can quote is what you as the customer expect the finished product to be.
We have found the easiest way to achieve this is a site visit because then we can verify both the requirements of the work to be carried out as well as the capacity of the existing plumbing systems.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?
I started out in the plumbing industry after graduating from high school with a local plumbing company. They specialised in maintenance and construction especially doing bathroom and kitchen renovations.
The exposure to these aspects of the plumbing industry early in my career helped me to gain an in-depth understanding of them as well as a desire to excel in providing great customer service to those clients.
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
I recently attended a new clients home to look at replacing some damaged hand basins. They mentioned to me that they had had some issues with the glazing on all four hand basins crazing. The house and the hand basins were only about five years old but every one of them had the same fault to varying degrees. The basins as is standard have a twelve month warranty so they were well over on that front, but it was an obvious manufacturing fault.
So while I was there I made a quick call to my supplier and within thirty minutes they had rung the manufacturer who agreed to replace all the faulty basins at no cost. My client was over the moon as they were just about to spend over $1000 replacing them with new ones.
So I didn't get the sale but I did get the job of changing over the basins. One less sale but one very happy customer.
