  We chose Tgw Constructions to build a grannyflat a few months ago, and it has been a deeply disappointing experience. We invested nearly $10,000 design fee and three months of our time, working with the designer the owner of TGW recommended, only to be hit with a final price of $330,000. This is 83.33% higher than his estimates of $180,000 he repeatidly told us. When the owner of TGW initially contacted us, saying he could arrange an on-site visit before providing a quote. However, he then mentioned that he lived in Gold Coast and I lived in Brisbane, and that the distance was too far for him to come over. It wasn't until we started working with the designer he recommended that he finally visited, but only after rescheduling multiple times. This should have been an early warning sign of his unreliability, but unfortunately, we didn't take it seriously. Despite these early signs, we persevered, finalizing the design and submitting it for council approval over a long three-month process involving the owner, the designer, and ourselves. When it came time to finalize the detailed contract, He suddenly increased the price by 83.33%. When we asked him in disbelief about the reason, he casually mentioned that his previous estimate was based on experience, as if it wasn’t his fault. If the estimated and final prices differed by 25%, we could understand, but nearly doubling the cost and thinking it’s normal? I really question if he has the basic qualities expected of a builder. He showed no consideration for the difficulties and costs he caused us, offered no apology, and didn't suggest any alternative solutions. Instead, he simply told us to find another builder. If it weren't for his deceit, we would have considered other builders much earlier. Now, with so much time passed, building material prices have increased, and our building costs have risen, all losses we have to bear ourselves. We might not even have the capacity to build the granny flat anymore. Such a builder, causing harm without any consequence, is something I want to warn others about. If you are considering working with TGW, please think twice. Don't choose a builder with few online reviews. Pay close attention to their words and actions. If anything seems off, cut your losses immediately. During this period, he also exhibited behavior such as not responding to any messages for two to three weeks and rescheduling agreed-upon appointments. This experience has been painful and frustrating, and I hope others can avoid the same fate.
