Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
I specialize in hedge and topiary maintenance, designing landscapes, rose maintenance, and doing large garden clean ups and restorations.
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
I bought the business from Father who I worked with for years prior. I really enjoyed the physical nature of the work, and getting involved with nature and working on peoples homes. It's nice to help create the kind of space and atmosphere where people can sit back, relax,, and really just enjoy the beauty around them. The garden is the natural aspect to every home; and extension of the home.. and Home is important to me. And so I am privileged to have the chance to contribute to the creation of the ideal home =)
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
I believe that these days many people focus too strongly and sometimes single-mindedly on doing whatever they can to maximize profits, and minimize expenses. While this is a good thing to do in principle, if you wish to create a thriving business, it sometimes also means that people take short cuts, create less quality work for the sake of efficiency, mislead clients... exploit.
I am old-fashioned in the way that I enjoy working hard. I enjoy understanding what a client wants and providing the service they desire, as best as I can provide it. Whether a job should be quickly, or thoroughly, depends on the client hiring me, and the quality of work they desire. I always think when working for others "how would I feel if I were paying for this service? What sort of things would I expect?", and I work to ensure that I minimize the chance of client dissatisfaction - not expenses -, and that I maximize the chance of smiles all around - not profit.
I know it sounds cheesy.. but I made the choice to work for myself because I was tired of setting my personal standards of performance, higher than my colleagues and even my old bosses .. Now, that I am running this business... the limit of where it can go is really up to me... and how much I can give back to the people is unlimited.
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
Before I can provide a quote, of course the basic details of Address, Phone Number, E-mail are necessary. Also pictures of the work areas are helpful, and rough estimates of the size of the job.
What do you like most about your job?
What I like most about my job is that I get to enhance the quality of peoples houses and gardens, which in turn enhances the quality of life for those that call it all their homes.
How do you normally charge for your service?
I generally charge on an hourly basis of $45 - $50 per hour. There are small removal fees to contribute towards the tip fee, and time spent offloading waste at the tip. Any additional materials necessary are charged separately.
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
Too many clients I find simply focus on "how much does it cost?". But there is a flaw in assuming that the cheapest price means the cheapest option. For example:
Joe and Sam both do the same job. Joe takes 3 hours charging at $40 per hour, whereas Sam takes 2 hours charging at $50.
Overall, the price for Joes' services comes to $120, which is higher than Sams' $100.
People don't realize that those who charge less, generally do so for reasons. Perhaps they are getting older and looking for a bit of extra cash to help get by, perhaps they are inexperienced, or simply lack a decent range of tasks..
Garden Virtuosos charges a decent price of $45.00 to $50.00 per hour. This covers the use of many tools from a range of high-grade commercial quality tools (STIHL), and fit, strong, experienced workers. All in all we strive to complete a job and provide results in the minimal timeframe. I am sure others charge less than our hourly rate, but not as confident in saying that we, overall, charge more for the same job.
Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?
Each visit receives a complimentary suck 'n' blow; with a high-powered STIHL Blower + Vac' we will tidy the driveway, surrounding pavers of property, and any other detritus or leaves around the place that we can within a timeframe of 15 minutes.
Also, a 10% discount on the labor price is possible, depending on circumstances, and different payment options are provided to help accommodate the clients needs.. Ask to find out more =)
How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips
Ensure work areas are free of objects which might obstruct progress.
It takes time to move things - like furniture, tools, various other objects - away from areas where they might get dirtied, or damaged. Time equals Money.. and so if you clear the work spaces prior to our arrival, we can use the time doing the job that you paid for, and nothing else =)
Also, removal fees will not apply if a client times the job to be completed whilst there is a verge collection. Alternatively, a waste bag can be hired, or the waste can be stored on the site somewhere; and loaded into the green rubbish bins each week, load by load.
What makes your pricing competitive?
We offer a range of different pricing options, from Fixed Quotes, to Capped Estimates.
We also offer discounts on the already affordable pricing, depending on the situation.
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
I was in construction for five years, have been doing gardening and landscaping over the last three years, and have my Father - Who has over a decade of experience regarding construction work and gardening - who I bought the business off to supervise me wherever I get stuck =)
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
I don't just want your Money. I don't want to get rich quick. I don't want to maximize my profit, regardless of the means..
I want to succeed. Succeed in something valuable.. while giving value back.
I want to not only pay the bills that we all got to pay, but to invest in my dreams. My family. My future.. And I want to build all of that up - not by taking short cuts, deceiving or exploiting people - but by providing something valuable to others.. some thing so valuable that they are happy to help me achieve what is valuable to me.. and that isn't the money per se'.. it's where the money goes; and what is hence gained that is valuable... and just as valuable to me, is where that money comes from; and what I gave to earn it..
You can't steal value.. cheat people for it.. You have to earn it.. True Value is earned.
You only get what you put in, and so it is not a "Business Guarantee" (that you often find being broken ironically), but it is an sincere Promise, that I will give you the best effort I can, to give you the best value you can afford, so you can - in return - give me the value that I am worth.
